What we believe.

Beliefs are important to us at Grace Church.  They shape who we are as individuals and as a faith community.  Beliefs provide the foundation for a strong, and vital relationship with God.  Beliefs combined with faith can become a source of strength, comfort, and hope during difficult times.  Beliefs can also dramatically affect the quality and future of our lives.  It’s no wonder, then, that Jesus called his followers again and again to believe in Him!

In summary, here’s what we believe:

  • We believe God created the world good (Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:31), but that the entire human race and all creation suffers because we turn away from God (Genesis 3:1-19, Romans 3:23, Romans 8:18-25).

  • We believe that Jesus Christ offers hope to our broken, hurting world, and that persons must have a personal relationship with him in order to be saved from sin, receive eternal life after we die, and enjoy abundant life here on earth (John 3:16, John 10:10, John 14:6, Romans 3:21-24, Romans 6:22-23, Ephesians 2:8-9).

  • We believe that Jesus Christ has the power to heal broken lives, mend broken relationships, forgive sins, reconcile us to God, and bring renewal, restoration, and rejuvenation into our lives (Mark 1:29-34, Mark 1:40-2:12, John 3:1-8, 2 Corinthians 5:17-19).

  • We believe the Bible is the Word of God and the ultimate authority for faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 4:12).

  • We believe that God through the Holy Spirit is calling believers into a community known as the Christian Church to be a sign of God’s reign in our world today (Acts 2:42-47, Romans 6:16, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Ephesians 4:6).

  • We believe Jesus will return to earth again some day to judge all persons and take his followers to a perfect eternal home called heaven (Hebrews 9:27, John 14:1-6, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Revelation 22:7-21).

  • Our beliefs are rooted in the authoritative and inspired Word of God, the Bible.  They are also articulated in more detail in the three doctrinal standards of the Reformed Church in America – the Heidelberg Catechism, the Canons of Dort, and the Belgic Confession.  Like many other mainline Christian churches, our biblical faith is also summarized in the historic Apostles’ Creed.
