What Love Is …

There’s an old song by the rock band Foreigner with the line, “I want to know what love is.”  It’s also the title of the song.  If you were around in the 80’s, you probably remember the song.  It’s also been said that two of the greatest needs we have as human beings are to receive love and give love.  Truth is, we all want to know what love is.  Thankfully, in a world where there are many diverse and conflicting ideas about love, God makes true love clear to us through the person of Jesus Christ.  In fact, God is love!

I’m so excited to be back after my break as we resume our systematic study and sermon series on the Gospel of Mark.  We’ll pick up right where we left off with Mark 14 as we embark on the last section of Mark focusing on the Passion of Jesus Christ.  I’ve entitled the remaining portion of our series “Journey to the Cross,” as we’ll focus on the increasing conflict between Jesus and religious leaders leading to his crucifixion.  This Sunday’s message, “Extravagant Love,” will encourage, challenge, and inspire us!

Let’s meet for one combined and musically blended service of worship beginning at 10:00 AM this Sunday, January 7.  The service will feature a couple great hymns of the church as well as a couple contemporary praise songs.  We’ll also have the privilege of ordaining and installing two new elders and one new deacon to our 2024 consistory leadership team.  A nursery will be provided during the service.  Refreshments may be served following.  It’s going to be a great Sunday of united praise, worship, and giving glory to God!

Start the New Year off right and please join us with your family and friends!  May God’s grace, peace, and healing presence flow into your life this Sunday at Grace Church!
