A Mustard Seed Movement

The American brand of Christianity prides itself on big churches, multimillion-dollar television ministries, semi-professional praise bands, and hot-shot preachers who can hold the attention of a stadium size sanctuary full of admiring fans.  If you’re a small church with a small budget, a small Sunday crowd, and a solo pastor, you are a failure by the world’s standards.  Yet, Jesus measures success differently.  Jesus redefines greatness.  Jesus prizes the “mustard seeds” among us.  In God’s eyes, the small are big!

Jesus teaches that with faith as small as a mustard seed, you can move mountains.  Jesus teaches that the last shall be first.  Jesus teaches that a servant is great.  Jesus teaches that children have value.  Jesus teaches that the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed that begins very small.  In other words, Christianity is more like a “mustard seed movement” orchestrated by God than human scheming to build a large churches that are impressive to the world.   Yet, this “mustard seed movement” grows in time.

Fact is, the Kingdom of God itself is growing and spreading across the world in remarkable ways today!  Despite downward trends nationally in church attendance and denominational participation, the Kingdom of God is actually claiming new territory in people and places you might never expect.  My message this Sunday, January 22 entitled, “Kingdom Contagion” will unpack this theme.  In a world of bad news and where many small churches struggle, join us to be encouraged to hear about Kingdom growth!

Traditional worship begins at 9:00 AM.  Contemporary worship begins at 10:45 AM.  I’ll bring the same inspiring message at both.  Worship will be real and heart-felt.  Warm friends will greet you.  The powerful presence of the Holy Spirit will touch you.  A nursery and Busy Bags are available for children.  And, you might even find some refreshments and beverage over which to enjoy friendship and conversation with others between services.  God invites you into His house this Sunday.  Will you be there?
