A New Song
Do you like to sing? My sure father did! I can still hear him bellowing out old hymns at our Sunday evening worship service when I was a boy at the Calvary Reformed Church of Holland, Michigan. It was fun to hear him sing so joyously and enthusiastically. I think he truly made “the rafters ring.” But not all people are singers. Some of us “make a joyful noise.” You might have a hard time carrying a tune in a bucket across the room! I’m not a great singer myself.
Yet, singing is a main staple in Sunday worship services all around the globe. Down through the ages, God’s people have sung their faith out into the world. It is a rich part of our history and heritage as believers. No wonder we love to sing Christmas carols! And no wonder the Psalmist exhorts us to “Sing a new song unto the Lord.” What new song will you sing this Advent? What melody rings in your heart? How might Jesus evoke singing in and from you this Christmas?
This Sunday marks the fourth Sunday of Advent. The growing crescendo of light on our Advent wreath points us to the True Light that is coming into the world. Things are getting interesting now. The anticipation is building. Christmas is coming. Christ is coming! The world is about to become a different place. And that is truly something to sing about! Please join us Sunday for our continuing Advent series ‘A New Reality’ in which I bring the message: “Singing Defiantly.”
Worship begins at 10:00 AM. The message will inspire you. The worship will lift your soul. The fellowship will warm you. And the healing presence of the Spirit will heal you. What’s not to like about that? Why would you miss this? A nursery and children’s church are provided for little ones. Refreshments will be served for all following worship. In a world of busyness, darkness, and chaos, come let us sing defiantly about the God who loves us enough to send Jesus to save us!
