I’m a Soul Man!
Do you remember the 1986 Blues Brothers movie, “Soul Man,” staring Dan Akroyd and Jim Belushi? The thing I remember most about the movie is the hit song, “Soul Man.” I also remember doing a spoof on that song at a church-wide Talent Show years ago with our former youth pastor, Bob Ford. What great memories! Yet, for all the comedy, the idea of each human being having a soul is a deeply serious matter. Jesus said, “What does it profit a person to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Mark 8:36).
Have you considered your soul lately? Do you care for your soul and cultivate it’s life in you? Jesus says nothing compares to the value of your soul; nothing in all the world is worth as much as your soul. Yet, it’s so easy to ignore the promptings, yearnings, and voice of one’s soul in our busy, hustle and bustle world. Perhaps your soul is trying to tell you something. Perhaps God is speaking to you through your soul. What is your soul saying? What is God saying? How can we learn to live more deeply from the soul?
This Sunday we begin a brand new post-Easter sermon series entitled Supernatural Living with a message entitled, “The Cry of My Soul.” What is supernatural living? What is the cry of your soul? Come and discover the answers to these questions this Sunday as we learn how to better appropriate the power of Jesus’ resurrection in our own lives. If you’ve ever been bored with life, long for more of God in your life, desire more of Jesus’ Spirit in your life – this message is for you. Come, be inspired and encouraged!
The celebration of Easter continues this week Traditional worship begins at 9:00 AM. Contemporary worship begins at 10:45 AM. Both services feature an inspiring biblical message, heart-felt worship, warm friends, and the healing presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst. A nursery space and Busy Bags are available for children. And refreshments will be provided for all in our Fellowship Hall between the services. Please reach out and invite your family and friends to join us. Let us keep the Easter invitations going!
The “Discovery Class” begins this Sunday for those considering membership with Grace Church and for youth who would like to make a profession of their faith in Jesus Christ. The class is informal and meets from 10:05 to 10:35 AM in the adult Sunday school room. This Sunday is also the last Sunday to donate food to the NE Iowa Food Bank through the Food Drive that The ROCK youth group are sponsoring. Feel free to leave a donation if you haven’t already. The Women of Joy Bible study also meets Saturday at 1:00 PM.
It’s going to be Spirit-filled weekend at Grace Church. I hope you and your loved ones will plan to join us. Please forward this email to invite others. And feel free to print and distribute the attached flyer for our new “Supernatural Living” sermon series. May God’s Spirit encourage and lift your soul this coming Sunday as we worship the risen Christ!
