It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Coming!

Today is Good Friday.  It is the day some 2000 years ago when Jesus was put on a cross and hung out to die.  It was a dark day.  The Bible tells us clouds gathered and a storm occurred when Jesus died.  An earthquake took place, and all hell broke loose.  Good Friday was the day people killed the Son of God.  It is the darkest day in human history.

For many, Good Friday seems to take place every day of their lives.  We live in a world of darkness and storms.  We live in a world of despair and death.  We live in a world in which things are not the way they should be.  We experience the sadness of Good Friday personally every day of our lives in this broken, fallen, twisted world.

The Good News is that it didn’t stay Friday.  Sunday is coming.  Over the course of three days, the darkness and gloom gave way to the light and sunshine of Easter morning.  Jesus Christ was put in the tomb, but he didn’t stay there.  There is resurrection.  Hope is reborn.  Darkness is ultimately defeated.  And this is what we celebrate this Sunday!

Even as we live in a “Good Friday” world, we look forward to Sunday.  Join me and your family and friends at Grace Church this Easter Sunday as we celebrate the new life that is ours through the risen Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  It’s going to be a great celebration of life for all.  My message, “The Meaning of Easter,” will identify four practical ways in which the resurrection of Jesus Christ so long ago blesses and benefits us today.  If you’re feeling down and defeated, this message is especially for you!

Traditional worship begins at 9:00 AM and features the singing our favorite Easter hymns.  Contemporary worship begins at 10:45 AM and features worship music led by our “Spirit of Grace” praise band.  Both services feature the same biblical message, vivacious worship, warm friends, and the renewing presence of the Holy Spirit moving in our midst.  A nursery space and Busy Bags are available for little ones.  Trumpeting lilies heralding the risen Christ will adorn the sanctuary platform.

A special Easter Brunch will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in our Fellowship Hall.  Menu includes fresh fruit, yogurt parfait, mini muffins, pumpkin cake bars, juice, and coffee.  The brunch is free but donations will be accepted.  An Easter Egg Hunt will also take place Sunday between the services.  Children should meet in the back Sunday school room at 10:00 AM to receive instructions and a bag, if needed.  All children 10 years and younger are welcome to participate.  Find the “Super Egg” and receive additional prizes!

Whereas today is Good Friday, Sunday is coming!  Who do you know who needs the hope of Easter?  Maybe it’s you, loved ones, friends, co-workers, classmates, or neighbors.  Please use the invitational flyers attached to reach out and invite others to join us this Sunday or simply forward this email.  Let’s pack the house to the glory of God!
