Stuck!

Have you ever been stuck?  My brother Larry once got his head stuck between the rails of his crib.  Mom had to call the neighbor man to come over with a saw to cut him loose.  (He cut the rails, not his head off!)  When I was a teenager, I got our Farmall M tractor stuck in the field once while plowing.  Dad was not happy!  As a pastor, I can get stuck when writing a sermon.  Some people find themselves stuck in a bad relationship, a bad job, a bad movie, or a long line at the grocery store.

Fact is:  We all get stuck sometimes.  But no “stuck-ness” is worse than that of being stuck in our sins.  Even the Apostle Paul – that great ‘spiritual giant’ of the Bible - said in Romans 7:15: “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”  The Bible teaches that every person on the planet is a sinner who has fallen short of God’s perfect standard.  Furthermore, the results of our sin is death and eternal separation from God.  “Houston, we have a problem!”

Thankfully, God provides a solution, a remedy to our sin!  The angel said: “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matt. 1:20b-21).  What is sin?  How deeply does it affect us?  Join us this Sunday as we consider both our sin and also our profound need for a Savior, Jesus the Christ.

Traditional worship begins at 9:00 AM and contemporary worship begins at 10:45 AM.  We’ll light three candles on our Advent wreath as the crescendo of light increases.  Both services will feature the same biblical message, “Waiting for God in Sin,” along with heart-felt worship, warm friends, and the healing presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst.  It’s going to be another Spirit-filled Sunday of worship at Grace Church.  Come, join us to be inspired, refreshed, and renewed in Jesus!
