What Does it Mean to be Reformed?
It’s never been my goal as pastor of the Grace Reformed Church to make everyone nice neat “reformed” Christians. I love the fact that our congregation is highly diverse with people from all different kinds of religious and denominational backgrounds. All people are welcome regardless of faith background and theological stance. But, of course, we are a Reformed church. So it is good that at least once a year, we take a Sunday to remember and reflect on our rich and beautiful Reformed history and heritage.
There’s no better Sunday to do just that than this coming Reformation Sunday! It was 506 years ago next Tuesday, October 31, that a Roman Catholic Monk named Martin Luther nailed 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg, Germany making his beef with the Roman Catholic Church known. Despite his efforts toward uniting the church, the Protestant Reformation was born. Additional reformers such as John Calvin and John Knox joined in later as the movement spread across Europe.
The ideals of this Reformation soon came to America and eventually the Reformed Church in America was established. But what does it mean to be “reformed?” What exactly were the issues with the Catholic Church? What are the tenets of our Reformed theology? Join us Sunday as I share five critical points of Reformation theology. These points are not only Reformed. They are also biblical, life-giving, and filled with hope. If you’ve ever doubted your salvation or faith, this message is for you!
Traditional worship begins at 9:00 AM. Contemporary worship begins at 10:45 AM. Both services feature the same biblical message, heart-felt worship, warm friends, and the healing presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst. A nursery and Busy Bags are available for children. Refreshments will be served between the services. The Discovery Class for inquirers will meet at 10:05 AM in the adult education room. It’s going to be another Spirit-filled Sunday at Grace Church. Please join us with your loved ones!
