A God Who Surprises

Aren’t you glad that God is not restrained by human expectations, norms, and limitations?  God thinks and acts in ways that are far beyond what our finite minds can comprehend.  He creates the world out of nothing; He tells Noah to build an ark on dry ground without a cloud in the sky; He speaks to Moses out of a burning bush; and He uses a teenage shepherd boy named David to defeat Goliath with just a slingshot!  And these are only a few examples of how God surprises us and acts “outside the box!”

I’m glad we have a God who is “bigger” than anything we could ask or imagine.  Yet, there are times when the “bigness” of God challenges my thinking.  Jesus was often challenging the Jewish leaders in their conception of God.  And, Sunday’s passage from Mark 7:31-37 is a classic example.  Jesus is once again bucking Jewish traditions and taboos in an effort to share the grace of God with those whom Jewish folk thought God never cared about.  Yet, we discover the expanding grace of God is available to all!

Please join your Grace Church family and friends for this inspiring and thought-provoking message highlighting God’s expanding grace and mission to the most unlikely of people.  May it give you hope, encouragement, and motivation for sharing God’s love with others.  Traditional worship begins at 9:00 AM; contemporary worship begins at 10:45 AM.  Both services feature the same biblical message, lively worship, warm friends, and the healing power and presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst.

We will also commission teachers, helpers, and leaders involved in our teaching ministries as it’s “Discipleship Sunday” at Grace Church.  “Fish Net” for children and “The ROCK” Youth Group begin September 14.  All Fish Net and ROCK leaders and helpers, along with those leading our men’s and women’s ministries and Bible studies will be commissioned.  Refreshments will be served between services for all in our Fellowship Hall.  It’s going to be a great Sunday at Grace Church.  Please join us and be renewed!
