All in the Family

Do you know the names Archie and Edith Bunker?  If so, you probably remember “All in the Family” -  an American sitcom television series that was originally broadcast on CBS for nine seasons, from 1971 to 1979.  The series was a landmark show for many reasons, not the least of which is because it did not shy away from dealing with controversial social issues.  The Bunkers were far from a perfect family which helped lead to the show’s popularity.  People could identify with them and their struggles.

What was your family like when you grew up?  Do you have fond memories of great times, warm relationships, and fun family vacations?  Or, was your childhood characterized more by family feuds, mom and dad yelling at each other, or even abuse?  Truth is:  Most of our families were a “mixed bag” of good and bad.  Our parents often did the best that they could.  But unfortunately, we inherited and learned a whole bunch of behaviors, habits, and attitudes that were not healthy or pleasing to God.

The Good News is:  God is in the process today of creating a new and different family – one based on love, grace, forgiveness, and obedience to His Word.  And, God is calling YOU to come be a part of this new family – the family of God!   Life in the family of God is different than life in our biological families.  In it, we learn to shed the old dysfunctional patterns of bad behaviors learned in our families of origin and put on our new selves providing a godly alternative for healthy, holy relationships.

Join me this Sunday, February 27, as we explore our transition into the family of God more deeply in my message, “Family Matters.”  Traditional worship begins at 9:00 AM.  Contemporary worship begins at 10:45 AM.  Both services feature the same biblical message, lively worship, warm friends, and the healing presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst.  Refreshments are served between services, and a nursery is provided at the latter.  Please reach out to a friend and plan to join us for a morning of healing and hope!
