Farming

It’s amazing how farming has evolved over the years.  What used to be done by hand walking through fields is now done by satellite-guided machinery that drives itself and completes the task in a fraction of the time!  I grew up on a 40 acre farm in southwest Michigan.  It was a hobby farm.  Dad had a full time job and worked the farm on evenings and weekends.  Today, farming has become agribusiness.  Farmers are a much business entrepreneurs and heavy equipment operators as they are people of the earth.

Incredibly, Jesus had a lot to say about farming in the Bible.  However, I’m not sure if he could have imagined the type of farming done by technology and machinery today.  Still, some things remain the same.  In Mark 4, Jesus shares a parable about The Sower.  In it, he talks about sowing seeds, differing types of soil, and the resulting outcomes of produce.  Amazingly, it’s all very relevant for us today.  Why does Jesus tell his hearers this parable about a farmer?  And what does it all have to do with Grace Church?

Discover the meaning of The Parable of the Sower this Sunday, June 4, in my message, “Sowing Seeds.”  We’ll consider its teaching, be encouraged in our faith, and apply it personally next week as we prepare for “Sunday in the Park.”  Our combined and musically blended service begins at 10:00 AM.  A nursery and Busy Bags are provided for children.  Worship will be moving.  The friendship will be heart-warming.  Hand shakes and hugs will abound.  Please join us and experience the touch of God in your life this Sunday!
