For God & Country

I’ve never been a Boy Scout.  I’m not sure why I never got involved with the local scouting program.  It always seemed like a worthy venture.  It was likely a matter of transportation and being busy on the farm while growing up, I guess.  I do know, however, that the first part of the “Scout Oath” makes a pledge for each scout to do his best “To do my duty to God and county.”  Interesting that God and country are tied together.  But do God and country still go together in America today?

This Sunday’s (July 2, 2023) service and message looks ahead to Independence Day as we pay special tribute (led by retired serviceman Will McCollum) to our country, our flag, and to our veterans.  Our passage from Mark 12:13-17 fits perfectly for the occasion calling us to consider what Jesus said about the tricky relationship between God and country, Church and state.  It’s a message and service you will not want to miss, both thought-provoking and inspiring.  Veterans are urged to be present and will be honored.

Worship begins at 10:00 AM.  The service features a solidly biblical teaching, heart-felt worship with a special patriotic hymn sing, warm friends, and the healing presence and power of the Holy Spirit in our midst.  A nursery is provided along with Busy Bags for children.   All men are invited to join together following worship for a few minutes of prayer in the education wing.  It’s going to be another Spirit-filled Sunday at Grace Church.  Please plan to be present and bring your family and friends.  Meet you there!
