Going for Gold!

Have you watched the 2024 Summer Olympics?  What a joy and how inspiring to see athletes from all around the world come together and compete for gold!  I loved seeing Simon Biles rack-up more gold medals.  And, how about Katie Ledecky?  Wow!  The most decorated female swimmer of all time!  And how fun to see Noah Lyles edge out a gold medal victory in the men’s 100 meters.  Then, there’s the men’s and women’s USA basketball teams.  Will they also each win gold again?

I love watching the Olympics!  The leanest, fittest, and strongest athletes competing against one another!  It seems to bring out the best in people and countries.  But what if there were a spiritual Olympics?  Imagine Christians from all around the world coming together every four years to push the limits of faith.  To see what could be accomplished in the name of Jesus Christ.  To strive for deeper holiness, greater godliness, and more Christlikeness in their lives!  Wouldn’t that be fun to see?!

Inspired by Olympic athletes, it is my pleasure to bring to you a new sermon series entitled, “Going for Gold!”  Beginning this Sunday, we’ll consider how we as believers can develop stronger spiritual muscles and stamina.  Rather than get weak and flabby in our faith, easily distracted, and quick to give up, wouldn’t it be great if Grace Church could develop a leaner, fitter, and firmer spirituality?  Rather than become discouraged or fall into temptation, wouldn’t it be great to stand in victory?

Join us this Sunday at Galloway Park for our second “Sunday in the Park” worship and picnic event of the summer!  We’ll meet at 10:00 AM for some great worship, my lead message in this new series called “Getting in the Game,” and a time of spiritual challenge and reflection.  Following worship, we’ll come together for a picnic with free food for all our guests, and then games for children including face-painting and balloon art.  All are welcome.  Visitors expected.  It’s going to be a great morning!

Handicapped parking will be designated along Stratford Avenue.  Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.  Members of Grace Church are asked to bring a hot and/or cold dish of food to share.  Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served hot-off the grill.  Table service and beverages will be provided.  Please reach out and bring a guest.  Is there a neighbor, a family member, a friend, a co-worker, or a classmate whom you could invite?  Let’s fill the park with people, praises, and God’s presence!
