Keeping Your Head (& Heart!)

Did you know that the command to “fear not” is used 365 times in the Bible?  That’s one “fear not” for every day of the year by my count.  Why is this command given so frequently?  Apparently, God knows our tendency as human beings toward fear and anxiety!  God tells the Israelites and their leaders to “not be afraid” over and over again.  Jesus tells his disciples repeatedly “not to be afraid,” but rather to trust him.  But let’s be honest:  In crazy times of high anxiety, that’s much easier said than done!

It’d be easy to “lose you head” and even your heart in today’s world.  Things are a mess.  The planet is plagued with natural disasters.  Nations are rising up against nations.  American politics is becoming more absurd by the day.  Mass shootings are on the rise.  Families struggle to make ends meet.  Add to this list the many struggles and stresses we all deal with daily on a personal basis.  Life is not easy.  And it seems to be getting more difficult by the day.  We live in crazy, chaotic times.  But what do we do?

Interestingly enough, Jesus had some comforting things to say in the midst of the crazy times that we find ourselves in on planet earth.  In fact, things are not falling apart; things are falling into place.  God knows about these chaotic times, and even predicted them.  They are no surprise to God.  And, they need not be a surprise to us either.  Based on Mark 13, this Sunday’s message, “In Days of Distress,” will offer peace and hope to troubled souls.  Please join us to discover three comforting truths for your life.

Traditional worship begins at 9:00 AM.  Contemporary worship begins at 10:45 AM.  Both services feature the same powerful teaching, heart-felt worship, warm friends, and the healing and renewing presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst.  A Nursery and Busy Bags are available for children.  Refreshments will be served between services for all in our Fellowship Hall.  It’s going to be another Spirit-filled Sunday at Grace Church.  Why not do yourself a favor, and join us for God’s gracious blessing?  God is calling to you!
