Ordinary People Used by God
I’ll never forget the two years I spent as a missionary in Cambodia. Teaching English at the University of Phnom Penh, forming relationships with students, offering an English class for neighbors, sharing Jesus with Cambodian people, and learning to speak Khmer were some of the best experiences of my life. But there was a drawback. The conditions in Cambodia were not always safe, nor comfortable. It was extremely hot and dusty; and I would sometimes hear gun shots nearby at night.
I thank God that He kept me safe during those two years. It wasn’t easy or convenient, especially being away from family and friends for that time. But it was also some of the most productive years of ministry I have ever experienced. Seems that’s how God often works. When we’re willing to make sacrifices for Jesus and put ourselves in difficult situations, God is often able to use us in mighty ways. At least that how it was for me. That’s how it was for Jesus. And, that’s how it worked for Philip too.
Join me Sunday as we consider the story of Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch from Acts 8. Together, we’ll discover how as Philip made sacrifices – going into the desert at the heat of midday for a providential meeting with a complete stranger – God used him in powerful ways. Want to be used by God to impact others? The good news is: You can! We all can! I’ll share three habits that all believers can practice which will allow us to release the gospel in our world and be used mightily by God every day!
Traditional worship begins at 9:00 AM. Contemporary worship begins at 10:45 AM. Both services feature lively worship, an inspiring message, warm friends, and the renewing presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst. We’ll share in the Sacrament of Holy Communion together, being fed and nourished at God’s table. If you can’t make it in person, join us online later in the day. If you are looking for renewal, significance, and a fresh outlook on life, this Sunday’s service and message is just for you!
Our monthly men’s breakfast is also this Saturday. All men of the church and community are invited to join together in our Fellowship Hall at 8:00 AM for great food, friendship, and faith encouragement. The “Women of Joy” Bible study group will also meet this Saturday at 1:00 PM. They will continue their study by Joyce Meyer entitled, “Battlefield of the Mind.” All women are welcome. Yes, it’s going to be another great weekend at Grace Church. Please plan to join us with your loved ones!
Together in Christ,
Pastor Dave Van Netten
