What are You Looking At?
Sometimes people sense someone is starring at them and lash out with the words: “What are you looking at?” It’s often said with a negative and sometimes aggressive tone. But I want to ask the question as friends and fellow believers: “What are you looking at?” In other words, what is the eye of your vision, mind, and heart focused on these days? Are you looking at the problems of life? The chaos of this world? Are you watching your finances and 401K? Are you looking at yourself?
The author of Hebrews challenges us to look at something else. Hebrews 12:2 says: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Of all the many things we could be looking at, Hebrews says focus on Jesus. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes need help in this area. It’s easy to get focused on the wrong things. It’s easy to take our eyes off Jesus.
