Wonder Bread

Every time I shop for food at the grocery store, I am amazed at all the various kinds of breads in the bread aisle.  There’s white bread, wheat bread, Wonder bread, whole grain, half grain, honey oat, and Hawaiian!  You can buy flat bread, corn bread, pita bread, banana bread, pumpkin bread, panini bread, and Panera Bread – just to name a few!  The list goes on.  The number of breads and kinds of breads is staggering.  I like pumpkin bread.  What is your favorite?

But eventually, all these breads leave me hungry again.  I feel full for a little while – or even bloated if I eat too much bread at one meal.  But in time, I find my way back to the cupboard or refrigerator for more food.  My hunger and thirst seems never-ending.  Now contrast that with the Bread Jesus offers.  In John 6:35, Jesus says: “I AM the Bread of Life.  Whoever comes to be will never go hungry and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”  Now that’s “Wonder Bread!”

The Bread of Jesus is truly unique.  But what do Jesus’ words mean in practical terms?  Was Jesus talking about physical bread, or spiritual food?  Was Jesus thinking of food for this life, or life-eternal in heaven?  Join us Sunday, February 9, as we take a look at the context of Jesus’ first “I AM” statement and discover its application for our lives today.  Allow me to share four important dimensions to Jesus’ words, and four practical ways we can partake in the delicious Bread of Jesus.

Worship begins at 10:00 AM and features a blend of traditional and contemporary songs.  Holy Communion will be shared and celebrated as we literally “partake” of the Bread of Life.  The message will move you closer to Jesus.  The worship will uplift your soul.  Warm friends will great you.  A nursery and Children’s Church is offered for children.  Refreshments will be served following worship.  So, let’s meet at God’s house this Sunday before the big game!
